Waymo has got the acknowledgement to make its self-driving taxi operate from California Public Utilities Commission. According to the reports of TechCrunch, the approval allows self-driving company own by Alphabet to take part in the Autonomous Vehicle Passenger pilot of the state. This is indeed a great advantage for Waymo because it has initiated the process of taking its autonomous taxi service venture to a commercial level.
According to the statement from a spokesperson of Waymo, some hint regarding the place and mode of business operation. The statement of the spokesperson is- "The CPUC allows us to participate in their pilot program, giving Waymo employees the ability to hail our vehicles and bring guests on rides within our South Bay territory," the statement read. "This is the next step in our path to eventually expand and offer more Californians opportunities to access our self-driving technology, just as we have gradually done with Waymo One in Metro Phoenix."
The approval made by CPUC is indeed different from that made by the California Department of Motor Vehicle that allows on-way testing of the self-driven vehicles. There are more than 60 ventures those hold the permission of doing tests of their self-driven vehicle. Waymo indeed holds permission to make use of its robotaxis for transportation of passengers. But, it is going to be essential for the company to have a safety driver for greater assurance. Moreover, it should not ask money to passengers for communicating.
In collaboration with Lyft, Waymo has made the expansion of its autonomous vehicles in the networks of it (Lyft) in Phoenix, Arizona. The company is said to be including its ten vehicles first over the Lyft platform in only coming few months. This provides an option for the users of Lyft to pick a Waymo straightaway from the application of Lyft.
