If you haven’t been living under a rock, you will be aware of the ongoing impact Netflix has had on the entertainment industry.
Originally, Netflix’s initial business model included DVD sales and rentals, which were acquired by mail.
Since then, they have undoubtedly become synonymous with entertainment and is the most successful subscription-based streaming service in the world.
In the U.S. alone, Netflix has an estimated 61.4 paid streaming subscribers, and that number is growing higher and higher.
Although the service availability is based on the region in the world, Netflix offers users thousands of movies, TV programs, and more.
The subscription price varies depending on the streaming plan you choose, with the basic plan at $9, standard plan at $13, and the premium option at $16.
It is an inclusive service with a reasonable price that entertains an array of budgets for people of all backgrounds.
Many features contribute to Netflix’s high position on the market, and these features have since been adopted by other streaming service companies to create the optimal experience for its users.
Stick around for, in no particular order, the best five features of Netflix!
1. Multiple Accounts
One of the standout features of Netflix is that it enables users to include multiple accounts within an account, which will depend on the streaming plan you choose.
The standard arrangement offers users with two accounts and is the most popular choice, especially for couples or two-person households.
However, if you have a family of four or house-sharing with your friends, then the premium choice includes four accounts, which provides users with freedom of choice.
It is worth noting that the basic plan, which is also the cheapest, only offers one screen. If multiple accounts are what draws you to Netflix, then you should prepare for an ever so slight rise in price to get the most out of the media service provider.
The multiple account feature allows Netflix to get to know you better and will, through algorithms, monitor what you watch and recommend movies and shows based on your viewing history.
2. Downloading shows
There will inevitably be times when you find yourself in an area without a signal while having the urge to watch your favorite show, on a plane, or on the subway, to name a few.
That’s why Netflix solves this issue by including a download feature. This feature allows you to download a movie or show so you can watch without signal or Wi-Fi.
However, you should be aware that not all shows are downloadable. The downloadable shows will have the ‘download’ button next to them and are predominantly Netflix-distributed movies and TV shows.
Depending on how much storage or data you want to use on your device, you can also change the quality of the video with the ‘Video Quality’ section of your app settings.
If you don’t want to use any data, and you have a WiFi connection, there is a way of downloading content by using WiFi, which again can be performed by adjusting your settings.
3. Protecting the younger audience
Like most, if not all, media-service providers and cable television providers, Netflix includes a parental control feature that prevents younger viewers from being exposed to inappropriate themes.
When you open your account, you should expect to find a section dedicated to choosing between four levels of maturity. This section says ‘Allowed TV shows and movies’ and allows you to select from levels for ‘little kids’ to ‘all.’
If that doesn’t provide enough control for you, there is the option to set up a PIN under the ‘Parental controls’ part featured in Settings. This inclusion furthers the inclusivity and makes Netflix streaming service for everyone, of all ages.
4. Using smart devices with Netflix
If you live in a smart home with multiple devices, chances are they are compatible with Netflix and therefore optimize your overall usage.
Google Home speakers:
You can link your Netflix account in Google Home’s settings and then start shouting commands and access your favorite Netflix show on your TV (or Chromecast-connected devices).
Amazon Echo:
Alternatively, if you have an Amazon Fire TV, you can use the voice control feature on your Amazon Echo to turn Netflix on your TV. All you need to do is link your Fire TV to your Alexa device through the Alexa app, and you're good to go.
Unlike Google Home speakers, the Amazon Echo enables playback control by commanding it to pause, play, fast-forward, and so forth.
5. The Sound
Netflix generally offers users with excellent sound quality. Still, if you sign up to Netflix’s Premium tier and possess a Dolby Atmos speaker system, you’ll be able to experience three-dimensional surround sound format, but is only available on select products:
However, you should know that not all movies and shows have this option. That said, Netflix includes an excellent range available in Dolby Atmos, with more and more becoming available with various updates.
