No more stinking garbage and leak from the trash as India is going to install IoT powered smart garbage bin that is able to detect when the bins are absolutely filled and notify sanitation workers accordingly. It will also allow citizens to know whether they can further add garbage to a particular bin.
For Indian citizens, it is common to see sidewalks filled in overflowing municipal garbage bins. Most of the garbage is flowing outside rather than being inside of the bin. These overfilled bins leave citizens nothing but with covering nose with a piece of cloth. It is high time when India needs a more methodical waste disposal system where the on-duty sanitation workers would get the notification in case bins have reached their ultimate storage capacity. Along with the onset of the smart bins, both the citizens and workers will experience a convenient situation in terms of waste disposal. That is what Mahek Mahendra Shah, the IIT-Madras alumni, envisage to achieve.
Antariksh Waste Venture Shah’s Start-up will transform a regular municipal dustbin into a smart bin with the help of Airbin (Artificial Intelligence Radio Bins). These bins will be capable of identifying when the bins are about to fill with garbage, and then they will alert the citizens and workers through an app. This notification will help the workers to clean the garbage ASAP, and till then, it will ask the citizens not to add further trash into it. After cleaning the app will send a further notification to the citizens so that they can no longer hold the trash in their house.
It's been 5 years since when Prime Minister launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign. Now Shah had developed an app called SwachhBharatApp.com that enabled citizens to click photos of any kind of civic problem in their locality and allow concerned authorities to know about the situation.
Shah told in a statement their app can detect any uncleaned garbage in the surrounding area and notify the workers regarding cleaning it. On the basis of this, the IoT based smart bin technology would send important real-time information to the cloud that will allow citizens and authorities regarding the current disposal system.
This technology is a two-component system- IoT module and sensors. These IoT embedded sensors will be attached to the bins which receive and send data through wireless technology. These devices communicate with each other with the help of a strong internet connection. With the app, citizens can tip the sanitation workers if they need to hire them for any small to medium cleaning project.
Shah also says the Airbins were specially designed, keeping in mind the geographical and various weather conditions of India; their team has already tested those. Shah is hopeful that his venture will reach new heights by providing the necessary recycling operation system to the citizens. He further added, they are earning revenue by selling smart bins, alert devices, and app advertisements. While talking about their pricing structure, he told, for the municipality, they are proposing NBFC financing models. The pricing of smart bins will be higher than the current garbage containers.
