New Internet of Things Security Laws will protect the consumers and their devices

There’s an increase in adoption and proliferation of the Internet of Things or connected devices. The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom are making development to ensure the consumers are protected from cyber-attacks. In the United State, California was the first state which passed the security law for the Internet of Things. By the looks of it, the bill will be implemented in January next year.

As far as the United Kingdom’s government is concerned, it has issued a new law that will need specific cybersecurity features for building into the IoT devices. According to the draft, the Internet of Things products are going are a label on the package saying that they have better security.

Both the security laws that have been brought forward by the governments of the UK and US will serve examples for other countries around the world. Mainly the countries that are looking forward to enhancing the security of the smart device which is usually connected to the internet.

Before 2016, the governments and the consumers had provided a little or no thought towards the cybersecurity protections which are built right into the IoT devices. On the other hand, nobody paid attention to the fact that simple security vulnerabilities which could lead to huge problems. But in the year 2016 Mirai botnet attack came into being. And via Mirai attack, the hackers were quickly able to compromise the Internet of Things devices all around the globe.

The Mirai botnet took down most of the popular websites of the world down. The attack provided an insight as to what would happen to the IoT devices if they are not adequately secured. This made the government and the manufacturers around the world to set parameters in making the connected devices much secure than ever.
