As per the latest trends, most of the well-known international mobile network service providers, along with IoT-based network providers, are now offering worldwide IoT connectivity. Moreover, they are using cellular networks and SIM cards to offer the customer better services.
Different devices used in shipping containers, as well as automobiles, utilize LTE-M to 4G networks to have hassle-free connectivity while roaming across the world. Even though there are no server providers who are offering services in around 195 countries, the global IoT service has got more stable and consistent compared to the 5-years old condition. For instance, Verizon is currently offering services in around 170 countries, and AT&T has its presence in around 135 countries.
On the other hand, in regions like North America, Europe, and Asia, the network providers are now gradually removing 3G as well as 2G networks. Besides, NB-IoT and LTE-M IoT-based networks are now being gradually introduced in different countries. However, studies have informed that the widely used data connection network for most of IoT devices is 4G LTE.
ABI Research’s Jamie Moss informed that global connectivity has emerged as a crucial thing. This is something that enables the companies to offer national connectivity to the customers without any geographical barriers. Besides, it has also facilitated effective cross-border connectivity.

As per the lasted studies, most of the large MNOs- Mobile Network Operators are taking their steps towards expanding the reach. The aim, for now, is to create an environment where IoT devices can facilitate global connectivity. They are serving as a roaming and technology partner for the companies who want to deploy industrial-based IoT gateways, asset trackers, and sensors to attain better coverage.
On the other hand, AT&T in the United States of America offers international SIM cards equipped with IoT technology. Utilizing the SIMs, the customers can easily connect to any global LTE internet connection plan.
The customers can buy multiple SIM cards to enjoy international service. On the other hand, AT&T offers pooled data along with an international roaming facility for more than 25,000 devices. Well, some mobile virtual network service providers, like Kore Wireless, Aeric Communications, and more, are now offering international SIM cards at a few dollars.
Some service providers, like Telit, have partnered with different companies to facilitate better connections across the world. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected the roaming revenue for the 2020-2021. However, some experts have predicted that the IoT traffic may witness solid growth in 2022. On the other hand, it has also been predicted that the revenue may cross USD 20 billion marks by the end of 2025 with a CAGR- Compound Annual Growth Rate of around 28 percent. The operators are now expanding their IoT connectivity and adding more customers.
