Like any other part of the world, India is trying its level best to minimise the novel coronavirus effect. The researchers, Scientists, Doctors and other health professionals are working harder to do the best they can.
Among this scenario, Researchers from the Lovely Professional University (LPU) have developed an IoT device which will make sure the user is practising social distancing and washes hands in every 30 minutes. The name of the device is KAWATCH which is more or less like a mobile phone which can be worn as a pendant. It vibrates and lights up if the person breaks social norms, i.e. comes in contact with other people within the safe space of 1 meter.
It also has a sensor which will notify the user if the body temperature goes beyond the specified limit. It will send the user an SMS about the temperature. In this situation, it goes without saying this type of IoT device is the need of the hour, as we can’t see the virus through our naked eyes (like any other virus) and because of our regular habit we might hug or shake hands with other persons which are strictly unhealthy for not only us but also for our society.
Upon asking the idea of the device, the University said, as per The World Health Organization (WHO) people should maintain at least 1-meter distance which is coughing or sneezing, so KAWATCH has been designed keeping in mind the following guidelines.
According to the Execute Dean of Science and Technology at LPU Mr Lovi Raj Gupta: “While the whole world is grappling to find a vaccine for COVID – 19, KAWATCH is our effort to contain the spread of this deadly virus. Social distancing and avoiding physical contact are the keys to staying safe today. KAWATCH enables one to achieve that by warning people in case their safe place is breached. We have already tested in internally and are now looking for the right partners to commercialise it. ”
KAWATCH is equipped with the normal human body temperature sensor along with an ultrasonic sensor. It also has a storage card which stores all the collected data and sends it to a cloud for future research purpose. This device has been tested successfully among the internal university members.
PM Narendra Modi has announced the social locked down on March 24 2020. He also said if people do not take the lockdown seriously, India have to pay its price and nobody knows how severe it will be. He also urges the citizen to forgot to what it feels like to go outside for the coming 21 days, which is still April 14. He further added a single step outside could invite the fatal coronavirus to your home.
Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) says for the novel coronavirus 2-14 days incubation period is required. In most cases, the symptoms of COVID – 19 starts to show up after five to six days of infection. There are certain cases where the patient remains asymptotic for several days which are hard to identify and treat.
On March 26, 2020, India has 637 active cases (data from covidvisualizer.com) the government has to take a strong decision like lockdown to harness the Pandemic novel coronavirus. The pandemic already has already taken more 21,524 lives so far, and there is no sign up of slowing down. Spain (3647 as on March 26, 2020) has already crossed China (3287 as on March 26, 2020) in terms of death from coronavirus. In this pandemic scenario, KAWATCH may help our city to fight the situation.
