Samsonite, the famous luggage company together with Panasonic the electronics company is planning to launch an Internet of Things (IoT) based new-age travel suitcase in the Indian market real soon. These two global market leaders have signed for a technology-oriented pack where Panasonic will back up the technology for Samsonite’s smart baggage. This tech luggage will start to be sold from the Diwali festival through Samsonite’s exclusive brand outlets.
According to the Chief Executive Officer Samsonite South East Asia, Jai Krishnan, the main motto is to offer the consumers with top-notch technology-enabled luggage that is packed with exclusive travel-friendly features. He further said: "We have added some revolutionary features like a biometric locking system, an in-built weighing scale, and a USB port. For developing the Bluetooth tracking software, Panasonic was a natural choice. Adding their technology capabilities into our suitcases will provide the consumers with a smarter and more efficient way to travel," He also added the power-packed technology made by Panasonic make this luggage must have every tech-savvy traveler.
This Samsonite new tech suitcase will allow the consumers to record up to 10 fingerprints which will allow the suitcase to open. One can allow his/her family members and close friends to access the bag.
Another worth mentioning feature of the suitcase is its anti-theft zipper together with zero track suspension wheels. Another stress-reducing feature of the suitcase is SeekitTM Bluetooth tracker by Panasonic which has specially engineered keeping in mind the unique requirement of tech-savvy travelers around the world. The location of the suitcase can easily be tracked with the help of a mobile application via Bluetooth covering around 100 feet radius.
The president and chief executive office Panasonic India and South Asia, Manish Sharma says the suitcase’s IoT based solution has been developed by Panasonic intellectual property (IP). The entire application will allow the user to become more comfortable; they can send SOS messages; she also added they are looking forward to connecting the Bluetooth technology with car keys. Samsonite wants to sell at least 3000 of such suitcases in the upcoming Diwali. The pricing of the entire project has not been finalised yet, but Krishnan said they are planning a price tag of 25,000 to 27,000 and above. The product will be released in Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, the Middle East (selected countries), China, Indonesia, and Australia. Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, together with India.
