Gartner has predicted that by the time the world progresses to the year 2020, there will be 20 billion Internet of Things devices connected to the internet. It is not only the IT sector which is relying on the Internet of Things devices rather significant healthcare organizations all around the world are adopting IoT devices to carry out the major operational challenges.
The Vice President of Cisco Talos, Matt Watchinski said that the entire world is on the verge of going through a massive transformation. With this transformation, the lives of human beings around the world are going to be extremely different. During the RSA 2019, Watchinski said that in the foreseeable future Internet of Things, IT and OT are all going to be connected. The Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Internet of Things, Liz Centoni said that this is not exactly the case. She also said that the truth about OT and IT is that they don't talk to each other.
This brings a logical question – "If IT and OT do not work together then which sector decides on the Internet of Things world"? The straightforward answer is that the decision relies on the specific IoT devices as well as organizations. The smart organizations are moving forward because of the nature of expansion and a dire need of creating a sophisticated network to protect the device from the landscape of cybersecurity threat.
One of the significant examples is the popular modern-day fitness tracker as well as smartwatches. Most of the employees of the company that develops these gadgets use their wearable gadgets. The moment someone pairs the wearable gadget with their corporate devices, this is where they must worry about the cybersecurity of such devices.
Security is the only reason as to why OT and IT work together to achieve a single goal.
