According to a new hacking report, during the first three months of 2020, hacking has tripled among the online educational platforms of India. The total number of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) has seen a major spike in spite of continuous surveillance and top-notch security.
In this pandemic, millions of users everyday join online educational platforms; this increased demand attracts various cyber attackers who conduct attacks on vital digital service portals. Most groups of attackers target a popular website or platform to launch their attack.
According to Kaspersky, the cybersecurity firm, this increases instances of hacking that can be a result of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) taking advantage of the current situation. In this situation, when people cannot move out from their home has to rely entirely on the digital resource, systems with poor security infrastructures can quickly point out.
The coronavirus pandemic led everything online from education to buying groceries, medicines, working from home using online portals, etc. Under those circumstances, it's easy to target those portals. Previously most cyberattacks were confined to public-facing resourcing now it has spread its wing to the manifold online platforms.
Alexey Kiselev, the Business Development Manager of the DDoS protection Kaspersky said they now see DDoS attacks point various internal infrastructure elements like corporate VPN gateways. The Department of Health and Human Services of the US government, together with a group of hospitals in Paris, have faced the DDoS attacks in February and March. In Q1 2020 the number of cyber-attacks tripled compared to 2018 and 2019. The average duration of these attacks also grew in 2020.
Though still there are more reputable educational platforms of India which are in this business for the last 12 to 15 years are quite safe to use. So, think twice before zeroed down to your online educational platform. Also don't share sensitive details like password, card details on the screen, change the password frequently. You must be aware of the security of your credentials so that hackers don't get the chance to manipulate your details from any online tutoring platform.
