Do you want to enjoy growing fresh vegetables in your garden despite living in a high-rise building? If you have ever thought of it: its not a dream anymore. Yes, you have heard it right, now it is possible. Due to the problem space shortage, people cannot think of growing plants or vegetables at their own place, which is a great issue still we compromise it every day just for the sake of living.
Agro2o, a Delhi based start-up on aggrotech, introduced a unique technology to address this issue. Now you can grow plants without using soil. By using automation and IoT, they have developed a soil-free farming device that can grow vegetables, flowers and other plants. So, now no matter where you live, you can enjoy having fresh vegetables directly from your garden. Besides, if you want to decorate your home with fresh flowers, this machine will enable that too.
Yash Vyas, the founder of Agro2o, explain this subject: he said they are offering ac series of soil-free advanced garden technique which will allow everyone to grow chemical-free plants in their homes.
Hydroponics is a subject of hydroculture which allows plants to grow without soil. It uses mineral nutrient solution in water, which acts as a solvent. Only the roots of plants should be exposed to the liquid nutrient. Arguably, it is one of the fastest-growing technology in the agricultural industry.
Many countries have already adopted this new technology, especially the US, EU, and Singapore. It has become a part of their lifestyle. There various portable home kits are available which can be placed anywhere in the home.
While discussing about the advantages of this new technology, Yash says it offers water conservation, which is a serious issue in many parts of the world. Not only that, with hydroponics, you can also reduce the amount of wastage, as you can control the number of nutrients that should be given to the plants. This system also allows the users to recycle the unused water back to the reservoir of the kit. Soil related diseases can be reduced using the technology.
The latest technology of Agro2o offers special hardware and software integrated with IoT embedded sensors which completely automated the plant growing process. These smart garden devices with IoT sensors use the required spectrum to run the photosynthesis process. So, even if there is no sunlight theses plant can continue their body function to produce food. as per Vyas, the firm’s main aim is to create a path for better and smarter living.
Having fresh food at an affordable price is a basic human right and Agro2o is enabling this with its latest smart farming technology.
Their first offering is a smart plug and play set up, which allows anyone to grow plants within their place. They term this set up as ‘Renaissance.’ This IoT enabled device doesn’t require much human intervention. The system is based on the micro-controller system, which can auto judge the immediate environment to provide the exact amount of light, water and other nutrients for the plant to grow.
The 30-year-old entrepreneur further added this smart device has a reservoir fill with oxygenated nutrient, which allow the roots to get the required oxygen. One needs to insert the nutrient cartridge of that particular plant they require to grow. This smart garden system also has a touch screen along with WiFi Connectivity which sends a notification to the users regarding water and other nutrient levels of the reservoir depending on which they can make necessary changes.
The Agro2o’s R & D department worked for hand in hand with Electropreneur Park, Delhi University and Software Technology Park of India (STPI) to develop this technology which uses non-genetically modified organism (GMO) seeds and water in a controlled environment to grow. They have spent over two years to develop the smart plant growing kit finally.
By the end of 2020, the company expects to expand into the GCC countries and envisage to sell around five lakh units in the next five years, as quoted by Vyas. Upon asking what make their venture stand out among others, he said their idea is quite innovative and need of the hour in this space shortage scenario. Their device also dilutes the power cut issue which is a serious problem in India.
