AWS announces its collaborative partnership of IoT technology with Yara, Provider of farming solutions. It is crucial to accept that optimizing the crop production aspects is quite vital. It is to ensure that there is enough food available at all times to feed the world that is dealing with overpopulation. In the process, there is also an urge to reduce the adverse impacts on the environment. Therefore, the use of IoT technologies is what intends to play a major role in achieving it.
Vice President of Digital Production, Yara, Marcus Furuholmen, said that their company's vision is to contribute towards making the world free from hunger and show respect to the planet. He accepts that digitalization of their entire system of production is going to help achieve these end goals. Furthermore, he adds that the new DPP of Yara will help foster partner collaborations, enhance the quality of fertilizer products, and will reach out to a larger population globally.
The next-gen Digital Production Platform, or DPP, is to be built with the collaborative assistance of AWS. DPP will power the production of Yara that will have 28 sites and possess 122 production units, including, Nitrate granulation, Ammonia, Nitric acid, and others. Along with that, this DPP consists of two mines. It is about to use AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT SiteWise, AWS IoT Analytics and AWS IoT Greengrass.
Vice President of Technology Department at AWS, Bill Vass, says that AWS is immensely proud to help Yara in its mission to feed the world and provide protection to the planet for a long & fruitful future. He also adds that AWS's collaboration is going to bring in a proficient impact on the global production aspects of Yara. They will get the cloud functionality, high performance, security, and other such integrated solutions. Bill Vass also says that by transforming the production system of Yara, they are setting an example of how AWS boosts and supports unique innovations.
With available resources, AWS's Machine Learning expertise will pass on to Yara. It will help these farming solution providers to predict the composition and quality of products, thereby improving the site utilities. Moreover, the use of AWS's IoT technology will also help Yara determine the need for repair in selected machines. It is going to help the company minimize downtime and maintain high production levels.
Not just software enhancements, but robotic technology and drones will also be preferably used for ensuring employee safety aspects. It is to ensure that the employees are restricted from working in confined areas or at heights. As of now, there is no disclosure about the financial aspects of this partnership. Moreover, there is also a lack of information on the estimated time regarding when Yara's next-gen DPP production is about to commence.
The companies might be deciding upon some other crucial details before disclosing those dates to the public. It is evident that this IoT partnership is for the sake of feeding the entire population across the globe and intends to help keep the environment safe.
